“Between the Carpathians and the Tatras” presented the prose of Slovak writer Ivan Horvát

The new issue of the series “Between the Carpathians and the Tatras” (founded by Tetyana Lichtey, associate professor of the Department of Slovak Philology) lifts the veil on the translation skills of the renowned Ukrainian writer and interpreter from Prešov, Ivan Yatskanin, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday. The artist shares his achievements in the field of literary translation and reveals the secrets of his creative laboratory, primarily in the context of Slovak-Ukrainian relations.

The latest issue presents the story “Man on the Street” by renowned Slovak writer Ivan Horvát. The prose writer focuses primarily on the psychological and moral circumstances in which the character finds himself, acting not simply as an arbiter, but presenting the reader with the complexity of the spiritual world of a man of art. The novella accumulates the aesthetic achievements of 20th-century modern literature, where the foreground is occupied by a person with an inner “I.”

Ivan Yatskanin has succeeded in enriching our literature with a text of high emotionality and lyricism, with a certain caution about the unpredictability of human life and its complexities. Ukrainian readers will undoubtedly enjoy discovering such high-quality literature.
