Scientists and agricultural producers discussed at UzhNU the practical application of biotechnology for growing environmentally friendly products
On January 21, the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Biotechnological Preparations BTU in Horticulture and Vegetable Growing Technologies” was held at the Faculty of Biology of UzhNU.

The event was organized by the biotechnology company BTU and the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture of the Faculty of Biology of UzhNU.
The conference brought together specialists in the field of horticulture and vegetable growing to discuss practical solutions for the use of biological products. The focus was on current trends in the development of the industry, real production cases from farms, and innovative approaches that contribute to increasing the yield and stability of agricultural production.
The opening speech was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Associate Professor Yaroslava Gasynets, who noted the importance of biotechnological developments for modern agricultural production. The participants of the event were also welcomed by the Head of the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture, Associate Professor Vitaliy Symochko, who emphasized the need for close cooperation and combining science with practice.
Serhiy Vdovenko, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, leading agronomist in plant protection of the Horticulture and Vegetable Growing Technology Support Department of BTU, spoke about the leading Ukrainian biotechnological company engaged in scientific development and introduction into production of the latest environmentally safe plant protection products, fertilizers, and biotechnological preparations to increase soil fertility.
Then there were speeches by BTU specialists – Yaroslava Bukhonska, Ivan Makovkin, Serhiy Vdovenko and Mykola Ilashchuk. In their reports, they highlighted the mechanisms of action of microorganisms useful for agriculture, as well as technological aspects of the effective use of BTU biological products in perennial plantings and when growing vegetable crops.

Together with BTU specialists, teachers and successful graduates of the university analyzed the effectiveness of beneficial microorganisms in gardening and shared their experience in caring for organic berry bushes and permaculture gardens
Associate Professor of the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture of UzhNU Lyubov Margitay shared her many years of experience in using BTU preparations in the process of growing a permaculture forest orchard.
Agronomist Svitlana Voron revealed the features of using biological preparations when growing certified organic berries – blueberries, raspberries and currants.
Among the participants of the event were many graduates of the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture of UzhNU, who successfully implement the knowledge gained during their studies in practice. They work as agronomists in such farms as the Konyk Farm, Mercy Farm LLC, BlueBerry, Ranet Farm, Green Farm, YabLoko LLC, Fresh Plants LLC, Agro-Solotvyno LLC.
A unique feature of the conference was that 97% of the participants registered via the Google form directly took part in the event.
The conference demonstrated the growing interest of specialists in biotechnological solutions in horticulture and vegetable growing and confirmed the effectiveness of the university’s cooperation with leading domestic companies.
